Organising a stay with a host family
Hopefully, the questions you may have once you are accepted as a host family will be answered in the dropdown bars below.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
• We receive a demand from a French students or families stating their preferences :
. Date of stay
. Geographical area
. Family with or without children
. Student interests….
• We then look into our files, select a few British host families we feel fulfil their requirements and send the descriptions of the families to the French students or families for their consideration.
• If you have been chosen as a possible host, we contact you to confirm your availability and describe the request we received. We make no obligation to host but ask that you answer our demand quickly.
• When you are chosen to host a student and have accepted it, a “confirmation de séjour” mentioning both yours and the student’s contact details will be sent to both parties. This acts as a binding contract between host family and guest.
You will then be in direct contact to make final arrangements.
• We will advise that, in the case of younger children, you would check authorisations for going out or in case of emergency.
• We also advise that any house rules you may have are explained in advance of the guest’s arrival. Non smoking, limited use of mobile phones, earphones, computers games (in the interest of the student), etc.
• For your information, we ask students to have adequate medical cover and a civil responsibility insurance, plus insurance for extra-scholar activities.
• Please note that the student has been informed of the price he will have to pay to you on arrival as a compensation for his or her stay.
• The host family is responsible for its own tax affairs and insurance.
• Provide a safe and welcoming environment for confidence and friendship to develop between the student and your family.
• Support and make the student feel like a part of the family, with the same privileges and obligations.
• Adults can sleep in an accommodation attached or separate from the family home.
However, teenagers must be accommodated within the family home and an adult member of the family must be present at all times during their stay, unless otherwise agreed by the teenager’s parents.
When we organise stays, we are very much concerned that all goes well both for the student and the host family.
Therefore, we will appreciate receiving news while the student stays with you.
• The price paid by the guests to the British host family is a compensation for food and lodging and time spent with them.
• Please note that we ask the student to have available extra money to cover the cost of payable attractions, sporting activities, etc… … In the case of minors, the pocket money must be given to the host on arrival.
• We advise that hosts who have in place plans for activities (days out, cultural visits, attraction or leisure parks, sports, etc) should inform the guest of these prior to their arrival and detail the approximate cost.
Some of you may wish to keep in touch with their guest and eventually meet him or her again.
We have of course no objection to this but have made an obligation for the guest not to organise another stay directly with the host or to pass on the Host Family’s contact details to others (see our “Terms & Conditions”).
Therefore, we also make an obligation for the host to forward to us any demand for a new stay on the part of the guests or their personal contacts.
